PORTFOLIOS

The IPAC Alberta Board of Directors has identified and maintains four portfolios held by
the Chair and other board members - to advance various aspects of its operations and
to ensure diverse support for its membership.

Governance Portfolio

The Governance Portfolio provides organizational stewardship, ensuring effective leadership and resource management. In collaboration with other Board members and portfolios, the Governance portfolio shapes the Chapter’s mission and strategic direction. The main function of the Governance portfolio are Enabling the Business (including serving as liaison to IPAC Canada; ensuring effective financial and asset management; and ensuring bylaws are upheld), Board Membership (including board recruitment and evaluation; succession planning and delivering positive and meaningful experience for Board members), and Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (including defining policy; communicating, evaluating and monitoring the status of initiatives and projects in the organization; and performing environmental scans).

Knowledge Portfolio

The Knowledge Portfolio increases membership understanding of government and its jurisdictions. It also communicates knowledge of current and emergent trends, and identifies challenges that are internal and external to governments. The portfolio's main functions include Research and Innovation (including supporting research on relevant topics and innovation in the public service, and ensuring effective risk management).

Relationships Portfolio

The Relationships Portfolio connects to internal and external interest holders. It is responsible for creating a welcoming environment and attracting membership to events and programs, as well as increasing the organization’s capacity through human resource management. The main functions of this portfolio are Building Networks (including serving as cross-government liaison; engaging members, partners and board members; and connecting and engaging with new public servants), Membership, Resource Management and Evaluation (including ensuring volunteer, membership and partnership management and satisfaction).

Communications Portfolio

The Communications Portfolio encourages inspiration and passion for IPAC Alberta within the active and prospective membership. This portfolio leads work to communicating the Chapter’s organizational priorities and ensures membership, partners and board members are connected to the activities of the organization. The main functions of this portfolio are Communications (including championing the value of being a public servant; sharing the board’s vision, goals and initiatives to members and partners; and aligning communications with IPAC Canada), Marketing and Promotion (including managing branding and key messages, and generating interest - from members and non-members - in the Chapter’s activities), and Program and Event Planning (including events and initiatives focused on celebrating and recognizing achievements, and raising awareness of the Chapter and its work).
