Call for Directors: Edmonton Regional Group of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada

The Edmonton Regional Group of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) is seeking volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors!

 

IPAC is Canada’s leading professional organization supporting excellence in the country’s public sector. With 19 regional groups across the nation, our members include public servants, academics and others interested in public administration. The Institute also works closely with all levels of government to promote quality public services and practices.

 

The Edmonton Regional Group is one of Canada’s most dynamic IPAC chapters.  Through our Board of Directors, we organize several knowledge-sharing and networking events to promote increased collaboration between public sector professionals living and working in the Edmonton metropolitan region.

 

At the IPAC Edmonton 2022 Annual General Meeting, we will be looking for volunteers to fill several Board of Director positions.  An overview of all Board of Director positions follows for reference.  All positions are for a two-year term.  If you are interested in taking on any of these positions, please submit your resume and brief expression of interest to through the linked form no later than Friday, May 27.  IPAC Edmonton’s 2022 Annual General Meeting is set to take place at 4pm on Tuesday, June 14.

The IPAC Edmonton Regional Group (ERG) recruits members with the following qualities as Board of Directors:

  • strong leadership and systems thinking capacity;

  • ability to build collaborative environments;

  • knowledge and/or experience with community engagement and outreach;

  • network building and strong interpersonal skills;

  • knowledge and/or experience with event management; 

  • interest to share your talents in a volunteer capacity.  

 

Enthusiastic, well-networked leaders who fill the role of a Director on the Board will have the option to support any of the initiatives that the Edmonton Regional Group undertakes.

Position Profiles: IPAC Edmonton Board of Directors 

 

All position profiles have been developed in keeping with the updated IPAC Edmonton bylaws, which were comprehensively updated in 2020.

 

Position: Board Chair (forms part of the Board of Directors’ Executive Team) 

Position Profile: This position provides leadership to IPAC Edmonton and helps to shape the organization’s strategic direction.  It leads monthly Board meetings, the annual strategy planning session, and assigns Board resources, as required, to ensure all organizational commitments to IPAC National and regulatory partners are fulfilled.  This position is registered for signing authority on the Society’s bank and investment accounts.

Estimated Time Commitment: Attendance at monthly Board meetings (1.25 hours) plus an additional 2-4 hours per month to monitor projects, undertake stakeholder engagement, and provide strategic direction to overall Board activities.


 

Position: Board Vice-Chair (forms part of the Board of Directors’ Executive Team) 

Position Profile: This position serves as the liaison to IPAC National and will provide the perspective of IPAC Edmonton in any information solicitations from IPAC National or its regional committees.  In addition, this position leads meetings when the Board Chair is unavailable.  This position is registered for signing authority on the Society’s bank and investment accounts.

Estimated Time Commitment: Attendance at monthly Board meetings (1.25 hours) plus an additional 2-4 hours per quarter to fulfill meeting attendance and/or information requests from IPAC National.


 

Position: Secretary (forms part of the Board of Directors’ Executive Team) 

Position Profile: This position will maintain the Society’s records on its google drive, take minutes at meetings, and prepare meeting agendas, in consultation with the Board Chair.  Each Spring, this position is also assigned the task of ensuring proper filing of the Society’s Annual Return with the Government of Alberta, to fulfill obligations as listed under the Societies Act.  This position is registered for signing authority on the Society’s bank and investment accounts.

Estimated Time Commitment: Attendance at monthly Board meetings (1.25 hours) plus an additional hour per month on the development of meeting agendas.


 

Position: Treasurer (forms part of the Board of Directors’ Executive Team) 

Position Profile: This position will maintain the Society’s general ledger and manage the Society’s bank account.  It will liaise with partners and stakeholders as necessary (including paid accounting staff the Board may wish to retain) to develop an annual financial statement for member auditing each year; and ensure the completion of all tax and regulatory filings.  This position is registered for signing authority on the Society’s bank and investment accounts.

Estimated Time Commitment: Attendance at monthly Board meetings (1.25 hours) plus up to an additional 2 hours per month to support financial management of the Society.
 

Position: Communications Portfolio Co-Lead (normally filled by two people)  

Position Profile: These positions develop and maintain the IPAC Edmonton website and its LinkedIn account.  They will seek to engage IPAC membership, provide guidance to the Board on stakeholder/sponsor development, and support communications efforts from IPAC National.

Estimated Time Commitment: Attendance at monthly Board meetings (1.25 hours) plus up to an additional 2 hours per month to support social media post planning, website maintenance, or other activities the Board may choose to undertake.


 

Position: Member-at-Large  

Position Profile: This position provides general support to Board-led initiatives and events.  Members-at-Large carry no specific responsibilities, but are encouraged to support any sub-committees, projects, or events which the Board may choose to undertake.

Estimated Time Commitment: Attendance at monthly Board meetings (1.25 hours) plus any time required to fulfill additional volunteer duties which may be taken on
